Electronic Sow Feeding (ESF) System is the best alternative to keeping sows in conventional gestation crates which allows freedom of movement in group housing, guarantees true individual nutrition and - in addition, provides a most valuable management tool for the breeder.

FAQ

1)  How many sows can be fed by one feeding station?

Technically the CallMatic station can handle an unlimited number of sows BUT we suggest, one station will comfortably serve 50-60 sows. (maybe say an average of 60 would be best?)

(Some manufacturers claim that their feeder may supply up to 80 sows per day. This is technically NOT impossible, but we do not support this strategy, because increased competition will lead to injuries, stress and reduced production)

2)  Can one sow block the feeding station for other sows?

If a sow inside the station is not entitled to any more feed, the entrance gate will be unlocked and opened. Thus, should a sow decide to occupy the station for any reason, the next sow to enter the station will be able to urge her out, no matter the status of the sow in the station and the new one coming into the station, “No sow wants another one behind her in fear of something painful may happen”.

3)  Does a sow that will be selected, still receive feed?

A sow, which is to be selected will get her normal feed ration or a special (programmable) “selection ration”.

4)  When should I use the color marker?

1. When not using an automatic selection unit, you can mark (select) sows for management reasons such as preg. checking, routine vaccinations, and to identify who needs to be removed to go to the farrowing stall.

2. When applying an automatic selection unit, you can mark sows in addition to being sorted out by the selection unit. This helps to identify the reason for being selected. – eg. for preg. checking or for vaccinations.

3. To mark sows with unusual feeding behavior (no appetite, too many returns, etc.)

4. To reveal sows which have no ear tag or who could not be identified.
